The newest batch of College Football Playoff rankings are hot out of the oven.
LSU is the #1 team in the nation this week, to the surprise of no one. They took down mighty Alabama in Tuscaloosa, which was yet another quality win for the Tigers and their best to date. They usurped Ohio State for the #1 spot and it’s likely that these two will now be combative going forward for the top spot. This is LSU’s highest ranking ever in the CFP era.
Speaking of ‘Bama, they were kicked out of the Top 4 for Georgia. The Dawgs, fresh off their shutout win over the Missouri Tigers, have climbed into the 4th spot while the Tide have rolled down to 5th. This makes sense when you take all of the variables into consideration, and we’ll likely see some combination of this Top 5 go down. Creeping up behind them are Oregon and Utah, who sit 6th and 7th after being 7th and 8th last week.
Down the ladder, the only other two SEC teams are still Florida and Auburn. The Gators rank 11th in the rankings, while Auburn sits 12th. This is down from their standing of 10th and 11th respectively last week, which makes sense considering Minnesota’s rise all the way up to 8th this week and Penn State’s tumble down from 4th to 9th. These two will mostly just be jostling for New Year’s Six bowls at this point in time.
