The Tennessee Volunteers had a solid day on the recruiting front on Wednesday, as they landed not one but two 2018 defensive commits!
Let’s take a look at both.
Matthew Flint
The three-star OLB from Alabama tweeted his commitment early Wednesday morning.

Flint is the 29th best player in Alabama in the class of 2018, per 247Sports. He was at Tennessee’s Orange Carpet Day back in June, which was the last unofficial visit he took, so the Volunteers must have left a lasting impression.
Flint is currently the only OLB in Tennessee’s class of 2018. He had offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and a host of other non-SEC schools.

Trey Dean
Dean, a four-star safety from Georgia, tweeted his commitment nearly a full twelve hours after Flint.

Dean is the 30th best player in Georgia in the class of 2018, per 247Sports. He’s the second safety commit in the class for the Vols, joining Brendon Harris.
Dean took an unofficial visit to Tennessee last weekend, so his decision to commit makes a lot of sense timing wise.
His commitment was a bit of a surprise, as his Crystal Ball was 75% Alabama. In fact, no one picked Tennessee.
