The loss for the Tennessee Volunteers in the SEC Tournament Final didn’t impact their seeding too much on Selection Sunday.
The Vols are an 2 seed in the South Region in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. They will play the 15-seeded Colgate Raiders in Columbus, Ohio.
This is the second consecutive year that the Vols have made the NCAA Tournament under head coach Rick Barnes. It’s also the fifth time this decade that they have made the dance, having done so back in 2014 under current Missouri Tigers head coach Cuonzo Martin and 2010 and 2011 under current Auburn Tigers head coach, Bruce Pearl. In total now, Tennessee has made it into the field 22 times.
Tennessee is in a region featuring the 1-seeded Virginia Cavaliers, who certainly have showed their worth this season. Their region also features the 3-seeded Purdue Boilermakers, 4-seeded Kansas State Wildcats, and the 6-seeded Villanova Wildcats. Nova, of course, won it all last year, and they certainly cannot be counted out.
Should Tennessee win against Colgate, they’ll play either the Cincinnati Bearcats or the Iowa Hawkeyes.
