Jeremy Pruitt announced the decision Thursday afternoon.

Tenneessee offensive lineman Cade Mays got one step closer to 2020 eligibility on Thursday, as the NCAA declared the Georgia transfer eligible.

Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt shared the news at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Since Mays is transferring from Georgia, he requires on additional step to eligibility, as the SEC needs to sign off on the transfer due to the interconference nature.

Mays’ father Kevin was an All-SEC guard for the Vols in the 1990s. Kevin Mays is currently involved in a lawsuit against the University of Georgia after his pinky finger was severed in a folding chair mishap.

There is no word on when the SEC decision should be expected, but with the season set to begin in a week, it’s safe to assume it will come sooner rather than later.
