The Auburn Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks will meet up to start the day on Saturday. The two squads, looking to either gather or not let momentum slip away from themselves, are perhaps at early crossroads in this truncated 2020 season. And we’ll likely know lots about each side after this outing is finito.
Auburn was able to get away with a win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in rather controversial fashion last week, while South Carolina won impressively against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The win over Vandy was the Gamecocks’ first victory of the season, while the Tigers were able to bump themselves up to 2-1.
The Tigers will be coming into this game a bit shorthanded. K.J. Britt will miss this one, and Eli Stove, Big Kat Bryant and Shaun Shivers also have been battling injuries lately. it’ll be interesting to see if they can really compensate for those losses, or if it’ll be part of their undoing against the upset-minded Gamecocks.
I’m intrigued to see how Auburn plays in this one. Their passing attack hasn’t really gotten it going and they are going to be facing a South Carolina defense that is really strong against the run. Tank Bigsby had a great game against Arkansas, but will he be able to replicate that success? We’ll certainly find out soon enough.
For South Carolina, it’ll be about seeing if they can keep their ball-control offense going. They don’t play fast, and they’ve won the TOP battle in each of their first three games of the season. While that’s resulted in a 1-2 record, it can be a formula for success with the right execution. Look for running back Kevin Harris to get the ball early and often.
