Mizzou takes care of business with win over West Virginia

That’s more like it.

What a difference a week makes.

Seven days after being upset by the Wyoming Cowboys, the Missouri Tigers roared back against the West Virginia Mountaineers, picking up a 38-7 victory in their home opener.

Kelly Bryant was methodical in the victory, finishing 17-25 with 150 passing yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Albert Okwuegbunam. All three touchdowns came in the first half, as Mizzou took a 31-0 lead into the break.

Bryant did leave the game near the end of the third quarter after getting banged up, but it seemed to be precautionary more than anything else.

While West Virginia certainly isn’t the team they used to be, it was nice to see Mizzou’s defense recover from last week’s shellacking. They held the Mountaineers to 171 total yards (30 rushing yards) and would have had a shutout without the one garbage time touchdown.

It’s likely that this Mizzou team is much closer to the real Mizzou than the one everyone saw last week in Laramie.

The Tigers are back in action next week as they host in-state foe Southeast Missouri.
