Montana Fouts pitched a three-hit shutout and Merris Schroeder smacked a homer in Alabama’s 3-0 win over Texas in Game 1 of the Super Regionals.
The Tide got rolling in the bottom of the 3rd inning. That’s when Schroeder swung and hit a bomb to right center to catapult them into the lead. That victory gave them a lead they wouldn’t soon relinquish. All they’d merely do was tack onto it in the 3rd inning. After Maddie Morgan stole 2nd base, Skylar Wallace charged in to score following a throwing error.
The 3-0 lead was all that the standout hurler Fouts would need to lift them to victory. Fouts allowed just three hits in her complete game shutout. Now up to 18-4 on the season, Fouts threw five strikeouts, no walks, allowed no extra base hits and induced nine groundouts to the 25 batters she faced. She was certainly terrific as she’s always been this season.
Alabama will take on Texas and look to get to the Women’s College World Series on Friday in Game 2.
