Monday night saw a fairly busy evening for SEC softball. Just two teams were in action, but they played a total of four games. Let’s take a look at what went down for Tennessee and Mississippi State.
After going 3-0 in the Tennessee Classic over the weekend, the Vols finished the tournament at a perfect 5-0 Monday, picking up a 6-2 win over Virginia and a 5-3 win over Louisville.
Tennessee allowed a run in the first inning against UVA, but came back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first and bottom of the second to put the game in hand early on.
The Louisville game was scoreless until Tennessee put up three runs in the bottom of the third, and added two more in the fifth. The insurance runs were pretty important, as Louisville scored all three of their runs in the sixth. Aubrey Leach had a particularly strong Tennessee Classic, and is up to a .556 batting average on the year.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State split their two games, falling to Georgia Tech and defeating Alcorn State to conclude the Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament. The first game saw Georgia Tech get out to a 6-1 lead before rallying for three runs in the sixth, but falling short of the comeback in the 6-4 loss.
The second game was dominance from the Bulldogs, though, as Alyssa Loza threw 6.1 no-hit innings and finished the game with a 6-0 shutout of Alcorn State. Her ERA is down to 1.71 on the season.
There isn’t a ton of action on the SEC’s softball ledger for Tuesday evening, as just one game is scheduled to take place.
The LSU Tigers will be hosting the Kent State Golden Flashes in Baton Rouge on SEC Network+.
LSU comes into the game ranked ninth in the nation, and look to improve to 14-3 on the year.
