On Deck for SEC Softball: February 20

Let’s see what Wednesday brings us.

Only one game was scheduled on Tuesday, but Tennessee-ETSU got rained out. So, let’s transition into what’s to come today.

TUESDAY’S SLATE

Florida vs. Jacksonville (5 p.m.)
Charleston Southern vs. South Carolina (6 p.m.)
Alabama State vs. Mississippi State (6:30 p.m.)

Two of the SEC’s ranked teams will be in action in the form of Florida and South Carolina. Each of these teams is led by big stars in the conference in the form of Kelly Barnhill and Cayla Drotar. Barnhill and Drotar are the reigning SEC Pitcher and Player of the Week, and are out for more this go around.

The best team playing an SEC squad based on record is Alabama State. ‘Bama State will be facing off with Mississippi State in Starkville. The Hornets are 5-3 on the season but, after a blistering 4-0 start, they have won just one of their last four games. This includes a 10-1 loss to UT Martin in their last contest.

While Florida will face a 4-4 Jacksonville squad, South Carolina shouldn’t have much problem in tackling their opponents. The Gamecocks are going up against a 4-8 Charleston Southern club. CSU has lost their last four games and have put up just three runs, having been shutout in their last three games. They’ve lost six of their last seven and eight of their last 10, so the Gamecocks should be able to make easy pickins of them.

Alyssa DiCarlo and Georgia was scheduled to face Georgia State, but that game was washed out.
