eeeeeeeComing off a bye week, the Mississippi Statee Bulldogs head to Knoxville to face the Tennessee Volunteers. The ‘Dogs last game was a 30-point drubbing at the hands of the Auburn Tigers. Tennessee knows what that feels like, having been blown out in their last two contests as well at the hands of the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs. However, the game against Georgia was a lot closer than the final score indicated.
Both teams could use a win for different reasons. The Volunteers just need to feel good about themselves, and the Bulldogs want to wipe the sour taste of the Auburn game out of their mouths.
Brian Maurer makes his second start for the Volunteers this weekend, and the Bulldogs’ QB situation is fluid. Grad transfer Tommy Stevens started the year but has battled injuries, and freshman Garrett Shrader has impressed in short spurts. Stevens seems healthy enough to return this week, so that’s something to watch.
This is a trendy upset pick this week, and it’ll be an interesting game to watch. Rocky Top is still a tough place to play for teams, regardless of how good Tennessee is.
Saturday’s game is an early kickoff at 12 PM ET, and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
