The first intraconference matchup of the 2019 SEC football season will take place on the first Saturday of the season. The Georgia Bulldogs will whisk up to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in an SEC East tilt.

The Dawgs are heavy favorites in this matchup and justifiably so. They boast hoards of talent on both sides of the ball including two All-SEC standouts in Jake Fromm and D’Andre Swift. Defensively they are led by J.R. Reed and a front seven that is ready to rumble.

The expectation is for them to get to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game in December, and Saturday’s matchup with the Commodores should provide their first step forward towards reaching that goal.

Vandy meanwhile will have a tough road ahead of them this year yet again. The Commodores boast some solid talent on both sides, including running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn, as well as Kalija Lipscomb, Jared Pinkney and Dayo Odeyingbo.

They may still face some uphill battles though and that likely starts with Saturday’s battle with UGA. They’ll be replacing Kyle Shurmur at QB with either Deuce Wallace or graduate transfer Riley Neal from the Ball State Cardinals. A decision hasn’t been made as there’s an OR on the depth chart for Week 1, but Wallace and Neal will have some good targets to throw to nonetheless.
