The 2018 college football season is set to kickoff on Saturday. The SEC has 12 teams playing on the first day of September, one of them being the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats will open the 2018 campaign, their 103rd football season as a program, against a team from the MAC. That being the Central Michigan Chippewas.

Central Michigan comes into this year on the heels of an 8-5 season in 2017. The year concluded with an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, a game in which they lost to the Wyoming Cowboys. However, they may not share the same amount of success this season. And as a result, this is a game that Kentucky has an opportunity to pounce on.

The best player on either side of the field will no doubt be Benny Snell. The Kentucky tailback is coming off a season in which he rushed for over 1,300 yards and nearly came away with 20 touchdowns. CMU is gonna have their work cut out trying to defend against him, as he’s proven to be a stealthy and dangerous runner when he’s going full bore.

The Chips will also be putting their stock into a running back when they take the field on Saturday. That back is Jonathan Ward. Ward piled up 1,017 yards on 179 carries, averaging 5.68 yards per carry and scored 10 touchdowns, to boot.

As far as quarterbacking goes, CMU is putting the ball in Tony Poljan’s hands. The redshirt sophomore earned the nod over the likes of Tommy Lazzaro and Austin Hergott. Kentucky, on the other hand, will be led by Terry Wilson, who won the job over Gunnar Hoak.

Kentucky is favored by more than two scores in this game, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. The Wildcats will likely walk away winners in this one, and won’t really have to worry until their trip to The Swamp next week.
