WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- #8 Kentucky, #10 Vanderbilt and #15 Mississippi State will each participate in the 2018 Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. They, along with Sam Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette and Houston will all be playing ball this weekend at Minute Maid Park. It’s a fun event, and for a good cause of course. All 3 teams from the SEC will be able to take aim at the 22nd-ranked Cougars, who are off to a 4-2 start to the year.
- South Carolina gets the chance to face rival and 21st-ranked Clemson. This rivalry matchup will have two games played in Columbia with the finale played in Clemson. The Gamecocks, unranked, do have reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week Adam Hill scheduled to start the opener on Friday night, so that could very well give them an advantage. They’ll have to face sophomore southpaw Jake Higginbotham on Sunday, and Higginbotham is off to a hot start. He’s posted a 0.73 ERA in 12.1 innings so far with 10 strikeouts and zero walks.
- #11 Texas A&M will participate in the Frisco College Baseball Classic. The field will include the likes of Baylor, Louisiana Tech and Cal and is set to take place at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. None of the three aforementioned teams are ranked, but it is still a fun test for the Aggies in the early goings this year.
