What Happened Last Night
The Tennessee Volunteers’ 61-59 win over the Kentucky Wildcats led to a lot of hyperbole — but it was still extremely important. The last time Tennessee won at Rupp Arena, Bruce Pearl was the Vols’ first-year head coach (2006); the last time Tennessee swept Kentucky in the regular season, Vincent Yarbrough was a freshman (1999). Lamonte Turner led the Vols with 16 points off the bench; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Quade Green each had 15 for the Wildcats.
Elsewhere in the SEC, the league got the bubble results it needed. The Arkansas Razorbacks scored an 81-65 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks to improve to 5-6 in the SEC; Daryl Macon led the Razorbacks with 25 points and Jaylen Barford added 24. And the Missouri Tigers picked up their third win in a row, going on the road and beating the Ole Miss Rebels 75-69. Jontay Porter came off the bench and had a monster night: 18 points, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 assists; Kassius Robertson led all scorers with 27 points.
And down in Starkville, the Mississippi State Bulldogs bolstered their bubble case with a 67-63 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide; Nick Weatherspoon matched Alabama’s Collin Sexton with 18 points.
Tonight’s Schedule
Time (ET) | Game | TV/Streaming |
---|---|---|
6:30 PM | LSU at Florida | SEC Network/WatchESPN |
8:30 PM | Georgia at Vanderbilt | SEC Network/WatchESPN |
9:00 PM | Texas A&M at Auburn | ESPN2/WatchESPN |
The headliner tonight has the first-place Auburn Tigers hosting the Texas A&M Aggies. You know about Auburn at this point; the Tigers are 21-2 and 9-1 in the SEC. On the other side, Texas A&M’s 4-6 SEC record is unimpressive, but they seem to be righting the ship with back-to-back blowout wins over Arkansas and South Carolina, looking like the Top 5 team they were in the early part of the season.
The Florida Gators have lost three of their last four, with two of those losses coming at home, and need a win over the LSU Tigers; that game will tip off at 6:30 PM ET on the SEC Network. That will be followed at 8:30 PM with the Georgia Bulldogs, their NCAA Tournament hopes quickly fading after losing four of their last five, visiting the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Bad Gambling Advice
Last night: 4-0 ATS; Season to Date: 93-88-4 ATS
- LSU (+9) at Florida: This is a lot of points for Florida to be laying considering that they aren’t playing very well.
- Georgia at Vanderbilt (-3.5): I predict that Vanderbilt puts a knife in Georgia’s NCAA Tournament hopes in this one.
- Texas A&M (+7) at Auburn: Picking against Auburn has been a dangerous proposition this year, but it does seem that Texas A&M is getting their season back on track and they’ll keep this close.
