Missouri hires Derek Dooley as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach

A familiar face is back in the SEC!

NFL: Dallas Cowboys-Training Camp Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

A month after Josh Heupel left Missouri to take the UCF head coaching job, the Tigers have hired a new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, former Tennessee Volunteers head coach Derek Dooley.

Dooley coached the Volunteers from 2010-12, but has had assistant coaching stops at SMU, LSU, and Georgia in his career. He was also the head coach at Louisiana Tech prior to Tennessee. After his time at Tennessee concluded, Dooley was named the wide receivers coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Dooley has no experience as a quarterbacks coach, and Missouri has potentially the best returning quarterback in the SEC in Drew Lock, so that’s interesting. He has also never been an offensive coordinator, just a head coach or position coach.

This should be interesting.
