Notre Dame takes down LSU in Citrus Bowl

It was a bummer of a finish to LSU’s season.

Despite Brian Kelly’s best efforts to beat himself, as usual, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the LSU Tigers, 21-17 in the Citrus Bowl Monday afternoon.

Kelly pulled starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush after just eight attempts, replacing him with Ian Book, a move that made a pair of ex-Notre Dame quarterbacks question things on Twitter.

Regardless of the baffling move, LSU’s defense seemed not prepared for Book, as he went 14-19 with a pair of touchdowns in the victory.

LSU was holding a 17-14 lead in the final minute of the game before Book found Miles Boykin for a 55 yard touchdown, the ultimate difference maker.

While it’s obviously preferred to win, bowl games are ultimately just meaningless exhibitions. LSU now bids farewell to Danny Etling and Derrius Guice. Guice had two touchdowns (both receiving) in his final career game. The Tigers will have a big hole to fill next season as a result.

Notre Dame finishes the season at 10-3, while LSU finishes at 9-4.
