The commits just keep on coming for Cuonzo Martin, who is busy with the daunting task of trying to rebuild the Mizzou basketball program. Fortunately for him and Tigers fans alike, it seems as if the rebuild is going as planned (although no games have been played just yet).
With a slew of high-caliber recruits coming in this season (i.e. Michael Porter Jr., Blake Harris, Jeremiah Tilmon, and C.J. Roberts, to name a few), Martin is now looking towards his 2018 class.
On Friday evening, he picked up his first commitment in that class.
Torrence Watson, a 3-star shooting guard who calls St. Louis home, announced on Twitter that he’d be headed to Columbia in the future. He’s currently ranked as the 5th-best player in Missouri in the class of 2018 by 247Sports, and his ranking is only likely to grow.

His Crystal Ball showed a mix of predictions that he would go to Mizzou and Ohio State, with the Tigers edging out the Buckeyes 57%-43% in that regard. In the end, Watson chose to decline offers from Ohio State, as well as Butler, Illinois, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Creighton, Kansas State, and UNLV, among others.
Ultimately, Watson’s commitment is another thing to get a success-starved Mizzou program some excitement as it looks to the future under Martin. And—given his triumphs thus far—it looks as if it’s a good bet fans and staff alike will be pleased with the on-court results.
