Texas A&M redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Starkel will be out for a “long time” after having surgery Monday on a fractured ankle, Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin said on his radio show.
Starkel appeared to suffer the injury after being tackled while rolling out to his left in the third quarter, with the Aggies up 38-10. He was helped up and limped off the field with his arms around a pair of A&M staff members.
Starkel was later seen on the sideline on crutches and wearing a walking boot on his left foot. He was 6-of-13 for 62 yards in his first career start.
In addition to Starkel, A&M defensive back Donovan Wilson was on crutches after the game. Sumlin said Wilson had surgery on his foot.
"Whether those guys will be back all year or not, I don't know," Sumlin said. "But those two guys are out for a long time."
