It’s not much of a surprise at this point. It almost feels like it’s just a repeating cycle. Once again, the Alabama Crimson Tide are the No. 1 team in the country.
After beating Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday, the Tide are No. 1 team in both the AP Top 25 and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll. ‘Bama was, once again, a nearly unanimous choice in both polls for the top spot. The Clemson Tigers were the other to receive No. 1 votes in the polls after taking down Boston College. The Oklahoma Sooners also received votes after defeating the Baylor Bears.
Finally, though, another team from the conference jumped into the Top 10. It’s the Georgia Bulldogs, who after defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs jumped up to 7th and 8th in the AP and USA TODAY polls. This marks the first time all season, preseason polls included, that someone from the SEC other than Alabama is in the Top 10.
Four other teams from the SEC are in the polls. They remain the same ones that we saw last week. That being the Auburn Tigers, Mississippi State, LSU Tigers and Florida Gators. Auburn is up to 13th and 15th this week in the AP and USA TODAY polls. This shift upward comes after the Tigers destroyed the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Saturday night. Mississippi State, meanwhile, toppled down to 24th in both polls.
LSU, on the other hand, remains at 25th in the AP poll after winning their matchup with the Syracuse Orange. The Tigers saw a slight bump in the USA TODAY poll, going up from 23rd to 22nd.
Florida, meanwhile, leapt up to 20th in the Coaches Poll but fell to 21st in the AP Top 25.
Kentucky, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Tennessee received votes in one or both polls this week.
