What a dumb game.
The South Carolina Gamecocks needed a last-second field goal to take care of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in Columbia.
With four seconds left on the clock, Parker White connected from 31 yards to give the Gamecocks the 17-16 victory.
Kicking was the theme of the afternoon, really, as Bulldogs kicker Jonathan Barnes had three field goals of his own, the last of which came with 55 seconds to go and put LaTech on top.
South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley saved the day, though, rushing for 24 yards on third down and picking up another 45 in the air when he found Brian Edwards to set up the game-winning field goal. Bentley finished the day with 295 passing yards and completed 22 of 34 passes.
A win is a win, but it’s hard to find too much to write home about for the Gamecocks in this one, especially since they get pushed into the rigors of conference play starting next week.
As it stands, the Gamecocks are 3-1. That’s the good news. The bad news? Well... you saw it.
