So, what do we have here?

Florida made serious ground

No team in the SEC, and arguably the country, made a bigger splash than the Florida Gators did. UF landed seven recruits this weekend including impact players in the form of Matt Corral and Ja’Marr Chase. Their 2018 class soared all the way up to 12th in the country and 3rd in the SEC after their weekend gains, as Jim McElwain and his staff were wheeling and dealing. The Gators’ future looks a heck of a lot brighter now, and there could be more optimism on the way with it just being the summer part of this recruiting cycle.

Mizzou finally pulled themselves out of the cellar

The Missouri Tigers were stuck in the lowest of low points in the SEC’s recruiting rankings. However, after a solid weekend, they’ve now propped themselves out of the basement and are up to 13th in the rankings. Their biggest haul of the weekend was 4-star linebacker Chad Bailey, who has the potential to continue a trend of stout defensive players to come to the Zou.

South Carolina made some gains too

The future in Columbia for Will Muschamp and the South Carolina Gamecocks looks a bit clearer after their bountiful weekend. They scooped up four commits following the Spurs Up Cookout, including three for 2018. They picked up a wide receiver (Tyquan Johnson), an offensive tackle (Jesus Gibbs) and a JUCO wide receiver as well (Ronnie Jamison) as they stayed on the offensive side of the ball for next year’s class. Their 2019 pickup was a linebacker, their first commit for 2019 (Ahdarrious Gee), so Muschamp gets his first building block for next next fall in the process.

What does it all mean for the future?

Well, we’re still early in this recruiting cycle, so largely, it’s hard to take these things as they are right now. Florida’s effort is more than commendable and with any luck they’ll land in the Top 10 for 2018 if they’re able to usurp Clemson and Notre Dame and whomever else may challenge them. Tennessee and LSU may have some heat on them from UF when the time comes, but for now, those two stand at the top of the conference.

Obviously, not everyone in the conference were major players this weekend, but fret not as there’s still time for everyone to catch up.

Regardless of that though, wherever you stand, this was certainly a wild weekend and one where now we may all be able to catch our breaths.

...

What’s that? Auburn got a commit on Monday and so did Georgia?

Oh geez.
