The No. 1 tailback in the nation, 5-star running back Zamir White, has committed to #UGA pic.twitter.com/t0MlXH7qDm
The Bulldogs were a consistent presence in White’s recruitment, back to when Mark Richt was still the head coach in Athens. When Richt was fired, Kirby Smart kept the ‘Dawgs in it. However, it was White’s relationship with running backs coach Dell McGee that helped seal the deal.
Jeff Sentell of Dawg Nation reported that White trusted McGee. And those close White endorsed him going to Georgia, in part due to McGee.
So, what are the ‘Dawgs getting in White?
White has outstanding size at 6’1”, 220 pounds. He also runs with power, too. His acceleration and vision are what sets him apart, though. While White is a game-breaking back, he’s also capable of breaking tackles and making defenders miss. He has the frame to add more muscle at the next level and the comparisons to Todd Gurley aren’t far-fetched.
It will be fun to see how UGA pairs White with 2017 signee D’Andre Swift. They are different type of runners and the Bulldogs have shown the ability to play two star backs at the same time, whether it was Gurley and Nick Chubb, or currently, Chubb and Sony Michel.
White’s commitment moved the Bulldogs up 12 spots in 247Sports’ team composite rankings to No. 55. He’s just the seventh commit for the class of 2018. However, don’t let Georgia’s slow start deceive you as the ‘Dawgs are firmly in the mix for some of top talent on the board.
Welcome to Athens, Zeus.
