The Florida Gators took the field Friday evening in Omaha with a chance to dispose of the TCU Horned Frogs and head to the College World Series Finals.
Unfortunately for the Gators, they’ll have to try again on Saturday, as TCU picked up a 9-2 victory to force an elimination game.
It looked like it was going to be an offensive showdown, as both teams notched a pair of runs in the third inning. Florida’s two came on a Mike Rivera home run and a Dalton Guthrie RBI double, while the Horned Frogs grabbed two on a pair of RBI doubles by Austen Wade and Zach Humphreys.
That would be all the scoring in the game for Florida. Not so much for TCU.
The Horned Frogs nabbed two more runs in the fourth inning, as Josh Watson brought a pair of teammates in with a triple. The big blow for TCU came in the sixth, as they picked up four runs thanks to a fielder’s choice followed by a three-run double from Evan Skoug.
TCU added one more run in the eighth for good measure, en route to the 9-2 victory.
Florida’s Jackson Kowar took the loss, giving up four runs in five innings. Charles King got the win for TCU.
As noted, there will be an elimination game on Saturday evening. It will take place on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.
