FLORIDA 8, TEXAS A&M 0 (5 innings)

The Florida Gators started their stint in the WCWS with a bang, winning 8-0 in five innings against the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Gators won this SEC duel in OKC thanks to a terrific offensive showing. They put up runs in all four innings that they went to bat in, with three innings of two runs or more. The biggest bop of the day came off the bat of Aleshia Ocasio, who crushed a three-run homer in the fourth inning that put the game in run-rule territory.

Unsurprisingly, Kelly Barnhill maintained her dominance in the circle and ensured that the Gators would be in position to win. Barnhill allowed no runs three hits, struck out five and issued just one walk in her four innings of work. Delanie Gourley finished the job in the fifth, allowing only one hit while putting up a strikeout in her lone inning of work.

UF now moves on to face the winner of LSU/UCLA. A&M, meanwhile, will await the loser.

LSU 2, UCLA 1

The Tigers are off to a good start in the Women’s College World Series!

Led by Sahvanna Jaquish and Allie Walljasper, LSU picked up a 2-1 victory against UCLA in Thursday afternoon’s opener for both teams.

Jaquish got the offense going in the very first inning on Thursday, doubling home Emily Griggs to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Walljasper made the lead stand up until the bottom of the third inning when a UCLA fielder’s choice knotted it up.

In the top of the fifth, in what was still a 1-1 game, Amber Serrett singled home Constance Quinn for what would ultimately be the winning run for the Tigers.

LSU will now face Florida on Friday evening.
