Baseball action has already begun on Saturday. Tennessee resumed play in a suspended game and defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 5-4. They’re currently trying for the next one... but play is currently delayed in the first inning thanks to, well, you guessed it: The same weather that caused the problems earlier.
To change gears here, Friday was an eventful day. Mississippi State got a measure of revenge on Texas A&M, defeating the Aggies 5-1. The Bulldogs reclaimed their position atop the SEC West with the win after the Ags had tied with State after Thursday’s encounter. Brent Rooker hit two doubles in the win and drove in what was his 64th RBI of the season.
Georgia was able to score an upset over Kentucky elsewhere. The Bulldogs upset the fifth-ranked Wildcats 5-3, using a ninth inning rally to storm ahead. The ‘Dawgs scored four runs in their final at-bats, doing so after an errant throw and a dropped fly ball. UK threatened in the bottom half, but UGA was able to hold their ground and come away with a huge win in the process.
The Wildcats weren’t the only ranked team to lose on Friday. 11th-ranked LSU fell 3-2 to South Carolina as the Tigers dropped a pretty frustrating game. South Carolina scored three runs in the second inning, and those were the only runs they would need the entire rest of the way. Despite a big day from Kramer Robertson who hit a home run and went 3-4 at the dish, the Bayou Bengals were kept in check.
7th-ranked Florida meanwhile kept up their stellar play with an 11-2 win over Ole Miss. The Gators offense was dynamite as eight different batters drove in runs in the win. Four players racked up doubles and two hit homers as Nelson Maldonado and Ryan Larson went deep.
Vanderbilt kept it moving meanwhile, defeating Missouri 5-2. The Commodores’ winning ways continue as Friday’s victory was their fourth in the last five games and seventh in their last 10 games. With Mizzou looking a bit woeful at the moment, this is a prime opportunity for Vandy to make a late-season push after being relatively inconsistent all year.
