Come Fan With Us!
Hello! If you don’t know who I am, my name is Garrett Kroeger and I write about SEC football for Team Speed Kills. Today, I am going to tell you why I am a fan of the Auburn Tigers.
Alright, lets begin.
Now, I am a 21-year-old from Iowa. Being from the Midwest, I grew up an Iowa State fan. The Cyclones are my true No. 1 team. However, the Tigers from The Plains are my second team. And for a great reason—not your typical geographical or my X family member went there.
If you ever been to the Midwest during the winter season, you would know that it could get cold as heck.
Since, Iowa basically freezes over during the winter, my grandparents on my Dad side decided to buy a seasonal condo in the South—in Alabama to be exact. Because they bought a winter home in Alabama, they started to adapt to southern traditions. And one of the southern traditions they adopted was becoming Alabama Crimson Tide fans.
Now, whenever I come over to their home, all I hear from my Grandma is “ROLL TIDE!” during the football season. Roll Tide this. Roll Tide that. It gets annoying.
So, during the 2010 season, I was spending the day of the Iron Bowl with my grandparents. Now, being a 14-year-old at the time, I was in that stage of my life that I didn’t want to conform to the man. With that, I started cheering for Auburn during the game.
At first the game was unbearable. My Grandma shouted “ROLL TIDE Garrett ROLL TIDE!” after every Crimson Tide score during that (I really disliked the first quarter). But then the CAMBACK happened.
Then Tiger quarterback Cam Newton began leading a comeback. After every Auburn score I started shouting “WAR DAMN EAGLE BABY!” to my Alabama-loving family members.
28-27! Auburn wins!
I was so happy! In fact, I ran around the house shouting “WAR DAMN EAGLE!” for a good 10 minutes. Also, that was the moment I knew I became an Auburn fan.
I’m just going to be honest with you for a second, every Bama fan—love my family to death—I’ve met are so annoying during the football season. They think they are so high and mighty. Oh my God we have Nick Saban. We just landed X-ranked recruiting class. Blah, blah, blah. That’s why I adopted the Tigers as my No. 2 team because Auburn is (OBVIOUSLY) Alabama’s biggest rival. I wanted to stand with and cheer for the team that opposes and dislikes the Crimson Tide the most.
Before I conclude this article, I have one last thing to say. Jarrett Stidham, Kamryn Pettway and the rest of the Tigers will takedown the Crimson Tide this season and cost Alabama a chance at the Playoff.
WAR DAMN EAGLE BABY!
