The Tennessee Volunteers had gone through a streak of years without having a player drafted. That was put to rest on Thursday when Derek Barnett was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, and yet another Vol has gone off the board.
Running back Alvin Kamara was just selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 67th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft!
Kamara is the first Vols running back since Montario Hardesty to be drafted by an NFL team. Hardesty had been taken in the second round by the Cleveland Browns back in 2010. Pulling the curtains back further, Kamara is the seventh running back from Tennessee to be drafted since the year 2000.
Hardesty, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, Troy Fleming and Cedric Houston are the names that Kamara joins in that regard. Former Vol running back Arian Foster, who had quite the successful stint in the league, was of course undrafted.
Best of luck to Alvin Kamara at the next level!
