Former Alabama middle linebacker and 2016 Butkus Award Winner Reuben Foster was drafted 31st overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Foster becomes the latest addition to the “First Rounders Society” of Alabama players in the Nick Saban Dynasty, joining Andre Smith (2009), Rolando McClain and Kareem Jackson (2010), Marcell Dareus, Julio Jones, James Carpenter and Mark Ingram (2011), Trent Richardson, Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick and Dont’a Hightower (2012), Dee Milliner, Chance Warmack and D.J. Fluker (2013), C.J. Mosley and HaHa Clinton-Dix (2014), Amari Cooper(2015), Ryan Kelly (2016) and Marlon Humphrey and Jonathan Allen (2017).
Alabama is becoming quite the breeding ground for linebackers. Foster is the fourth first rounder at linebacker under Saban and the 11th overall.
While character concerns have arisen since the Combine, Foster’s tape should bear out his lights out ability on the field. The Niners have almost certainly gotten a steal out of what could be a generational middle linebacker.
Congratulations to Foster and best of luck to him in the NFL!
