The Tennessee Volunteers hadn’t had a draft pick since 2014. That moratorium is now over.

Vols defensive end Derek Barnett has just been selected with the 14th overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles!

Barnett is the first Volunteer to be selected in the NFL Draft since defensive tackle Daniel McCullers went in the sixth round of the 2014 Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even with that in mind though, Barnett joins a group that includes Eric Berry, Dan Williams, Cordarelle Patterson and Ja’Wuan James as first rounders from UT since 2010.

He’s the first defensive lineman to be selected in the first round since Williams and the seventh since the turn of the 21st century. Barnett joins the company of Williams, Shaun Ellis, Albert Haynesworth, John Henderson, Justin Harrell and Robert Ayers in that regard, which isn’t too shabby of company to be around.

Best of luck to Derek Barnett in the NFL!
