With so many teams in the SEC ranked in the Top 25, everywhere you look there was fantastic baseball being played around the conference.
LSU took on Ole Miss this weekend and came away with two of the three games in their hand. The Tigers came out strong in their first meeting, burying the Rebels 15-2, before falling to Ole Miss the following night in a tough 4-1 loss. The Bayou Bengals would answer on Sunday with a 3-2 victory to close out the series.
The Tigers will be looking to keep the W’s coming as the end of the season draws near. They are currently just out of reach of Omaha, but will have a tough battle ahead of them as they go on to face Kentucky this weekend.
The Wildcats also won their series against the Missouri Tigers last weekend, only suffering a heartbreaking one-run loss to Mizzou on Saturday. UK will be looking to find consistency as the take on LSU this week. The Cats have been on hot streaks on multiple occasions throughout the season, but find themselves losing at inconvenient times. If consistency is found, Kentucky is suited to be one of the best teams in the conference.
Speaking of one of the better teams in the conference, the Florida Gators closed the weekend out with an absolute annihilation of Vanderbilt, putting them away 20-8. The Gators would not sweep Vandy this weekend, falling to the Commodores on Friday in their second game of the weekend by a score of 2-0. UF, who has struggled to get ahead of LSU in the rankings, can change their luck in the following weeks. If they put their minds to it, they may only lose a couple of games in what is one of the softer closing schedules in the conference.
Auburn finds themselves currently sitting at the No. 12 spot in the rankings, but last week they found themselves in Knoxville, Tennessee in what was a fairly successfully weekend for the Tigers. The Volunteers were able to best Auburn on Friday winning by one run in a game that would finish 5-4 but lost the series ultimately to the team from the plains.
Auburn will have no time to rest as they go on to have a harder weekend ahead of them as they battle Arkansas this weekend. Although not out of the running, they will need to do well this weekend in order to keep their momentum alive. Arkansas will be coming off their series against Georgia, where they swept the Bulldogs in the team's series.
Finally, the only Top 25 conference matchup this week was between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Although both teams are lower in the rankings, they are still battling it out till the end of the season. The Bulldogs would find themselves on top as they managed to defeat the Gamecocks twice, with their lone loss coming in the final game of the series as South Carolina could take down the Bulldogs 6-1.
