After a busy weekend in the Lone Star State, Texas A&M rebounded from losses to TCU and Baylor with a 16-7 victory over UT Rio Grande. The game was an early tussle as A&M clung to a 5-4 lead before UT Rio Grande took the lead in the fifth. The Aggies would respond with two runs in the fifth and exploded for NINE in the sixth inning alone. All their opponents could muster up after that was just one run in the sventh, as the Ags held down the fort so to speak en route to a big win for the 12th-ranked team in the country.
2nd-ranked Florida was surprised by Florida Gulf Coast, as the Eagles trounced the Gators 7-3. FGCU held a 5-1 advantage after a four-run fourth inning and after the Gators responded with a tally in the fifth, FGCU would knock in two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Suffice it to say, it was a bit of a setback for UF, who falls to 10-3 after their day of play.
The other ranked teams in the SEC were winners as Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Ole Miss each won their respective games. The Gamecocks had the most lopsided affair (a 12-5 win over The Citadel) while the Rebels beat Georgia State merely 1-0. 24th-ranked Vandy was just in between, winning 10-5 over Central Arkansas.
Missouri kept their win streak alive as they bested Eastern Illinois 10-1. The Tigers started off hot, getting three runs aboard in the first before putting up another 3-spot in the 3rd inning. It would be the second of three 3-run innings as Mizzou would later put up that tally in the eighth inning. The Tigers would prove to be efficient at the plate, putting those 10 runs up on 15 hits. They’re now winners of their last 11 and will put that to the test again on Wednesday.
Other notable results include Arkansas and Kentucky’s lopsided wins over UL Monroe (12-1 for the Hogs, 15-1 for the ‘Cats). Additionally, Mississippi State fell to 24th-ranked Louisiana Tech, and Auburn found themselves on the wrong side of a 14-3 beatdown by South Alabama.
