LSU has parted ways with head coach Johnny Jones, according to a report from Andrew Lopez of Nola.com.
Jones had a 90-71 record in five years in Baton Rouge, including a 42-48 record in SEC games. But the program was trending in the wrong direction: after making the 2015 NCAA Tournament, LSU missed the tournament in 2016 in spite of the presence of Ben Simmons, and this year’s squad collapsed to 10-20 and 2-16 in the SEC, including losing fifteen in a row at one point.
Jones will coach LSU in the SEC Tournament; the Tigers will face Mississippi State in the first round on Wednesday night. The timetable for a new hire is not clear.
