SEC baseball weekend wrap-up (3/7/17)

Mizzou is on a hot streak. That isn’t a typo.

NCAA Basketball: Arkansas at Missouri Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

This weekend proved to be a successful one for the SEC-leading Florida Gators as they went on to sweep the Columbia Lions, retaining their No. 2 ranking. The Gators came into this weekend looking for a boost of confidence after a tough loss to Central Florida on Wednesday and received the momentum boost they needed, winning every game by more than double their opponent’s runs. The closest margin was in their 8-4 victory over the Lions on Sunday, when down 1-0, the Gators scored eight runs in the 6th and 7th innings to take a commanding lead and eventually win the game.

Speaking of winning, the Missouri Tigers are absolutely on fire right now. After losing their first game of the season, Mizzou has managed to win all of their last 10 games. This weekend, they swept UIC en route to tacking on another victim. The Tigers have had notable wins over Houston and Illinois, and this week, they’ll look to keep their winning ways going against Eastern Illinois and Western Carolina before a weekend series against Appalachian State.

LSU, on the other hand, would not be as fortunate this weekend. Coming into Friday’s game against TCU a confident 8-1, the Tigers would get put away in a 9-6 loss to the Horned Frogs.n The Tigers would later go on to taste victory against the Baylor Bears on Saturday, winning convincingly 4-0, before receiving the TCU treatment from Texas Tech, losing 5-4.

South Carolina would have similar troubles against the Clemson Tigers, taking home a win on Friday before falling in the final two games of the series.

But nobody in the Southeastern Conference had a worse weekend than Ole Miss. Along with their fellow SEC mates LSU, the Rebels had a hard time making it through their weekend in Houston, falling to TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech. This came after the Rebs acquired their first loss of the season against Memphis. The Rebels will look to turn the tide against Georgia State before heading into a three-game set against Furman this weekend.
