In the premier matchup of the day, No. 3 LSU fell 9-6 to the No. 1-ranked TCU Horned Frogs. The Tigers were able to jump out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning of play, but TCU would respond like you’d expect the No. 1 team to, outscoring the Bayou Bengals 8-2 the rest of the way at the ‘Juice Box’ (a.k.a. Minute Maid Park in Houston).

LSU wasn’t the only ranked team from the SEC to fall on Friday. 6th-ranked Vanderbilt dropped their opener to Cal State Northridge 6-4 as life for the Commodores continues to be skittish. At 6-4 (coincidentally), Vandy will have to regroup quickly to attempt to take this weekend series in Nashville.

Ole Miss got tagged with their second straight loss, this time at the hands of Baylor. The Rebels were taken down 4-0 by the Bears as life is getting a bit tougher as the calendar’s turned to March. It won’t get any easier as matchups with 19th-ranked Texas Tech and No. 1-ranked TCU loom this weekend.

South Carolina, Florida and Texas A&M however didn’t have such poor luck as all three scooped up wins. The Gamecocks bested in-state rival Clemson 2-0 as Clarke Schmidt anchored a shutout performance by the Gamecocks on the mound. The Gators and Aggies also picked up shutout wins on Friday, winning to the tune of 7- and 9-0.
