SEC Baseball Weekend Preview

There’s lots going down.

It’s going to be an exciting weekend in the SEC with plenty of matchups between Southeastern Conference teams.

One important series this weekend is between the fifth-ranked LSU Tigers and the 11th-ranked Florida Gators. Both teams have been up and down the rankings this season and aiming for stability as we approach the middle of the season. The Tigers are on a four-game winning streak after steamrolling Georgia and Southern Louisiana, while the Gators on the other hand have really struggled lately. Last weekend, they found themselves in a series against Auburn where they couldn't manage a single victory.

This weekend against LSU, the Gators will try to use what little momentum they gained in their 9-8 win against Stetson to push through this weekend’s series.

Another Top 25 series this weekend is between the Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcats. The Rebels are currently ranked 14th in the country and won the first of three games against the Wildcats Thursday night, pulling off a 9-6 victory to start the series. Ole Miss should not take UK too lightly though, as the Wildcats have now won eight of nine, one more than the Rebels have in their previous nine. In those last nine, the Wildcats swept the Texas A&M Aggies. Expect Kentucky to put up a fight the rest of the weekend.

Another game to keep an eye on is South Carolina vs. Alabama. The Gamecocks are currently ranked eighth in the country and should not have a difficult time handling business in their series this weekend given the Crimson Tide’s track record. Alabama's in state neighbor Auburn should have no problem in taking down the Georgia Bulldogs in their series this weekend, as well.

The Texas A&M Aggies and Vanderbilt also face off this weekend in a series that should be in favor of the Aggies. Although Vandy is a strong team that has proven themselves to be tough this season, it will likely be difficult to defeat a ranked opponent with something to prove with a team in the Commodores that has struggled to be consistent at this point in the season.

One of the most interesting series this weekend is No. 20 Missouri vs. Arkansas. Missouri is absolutely on fire, riding with a 20-game win streak. The Tigers even swept the Alabama Crimson Tide for their first three conference victories. The Razorbacks have won their last six games, three of which were against Mississippi State. Arkansas should be a true test for the seemingly indestructible Tigers.
