In the latest chapter of their rivalry down in the Sunshine State, Florida was able to edge out Miami. And by edge out, we really mean edge out, as the Gators triumphed over the Hurricanes 1-0. The lone run of the game came across in the third when Dalton Guthrie touched home after Jonathan India drove him in with an RBI single. Pitcher Alex Faedo pitched extraordinarily, tossing 8.2 scoreless innings and Frank Rubio was able to clean up and cap off the win.
Ole Miss maintained their winning ways, notching a 7-2 victory over UNC Wilmington. The Rebels scored four runs in the second and tacked on a fifth in the third inning, opening up a can on UNCW from the jump. Nine batters were able to come to bat in the big 2nd inning, with four runs being scored on a walk, a single, a sacrifice fly and another single. Grae Kessinger went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Chase Cockrell went 2-for-4.
The LSU Tigers were determined to remain in the No. 3 spot with an absolutely dominant performance against the Maryland Terrapins in the first game of a three-game set. The Tigers took control of the game early on with incredible pitching by Alex Lange, as the junior would strike out 12 batters in the six innings that he pitched. LSU junior Michael Papierski would compliment this performance by hitting a three-run home run to wrap up the victory for the Tigers, who would go on to beat Maryland 6-1.
But, the potential rising star in the Southeastern Conference this year may be the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Hogs have managed to knock down every opponent their schedule has set up for them, going 4-0 to start the season. Friday’s game was no different as the Razorbacks took advantage of a sloppy sixth inning for Bryant, scoring 10 runs in that inning and bringing home the W with an 11-8 victory over the Bulldogs. This should be an exciting team to watch as we get into more conference play later in the season.
