Leading Off...
The big matchup of the day was the doubleheader between UCLA and Kentucky. By night’s end, the Wildcats managed to force a split in the two game set, winning 2-1 in 11 innings following a 6-2 defeat earlier in the evening. Jenny Schaper can be credited with doing the damage in extras after hitting a solo shot in the top of the 11th frame.

Elsewhere, no other SEC team experienced the agony of defeat. Georgia, Florida, Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M were able to handle their business against their lowlier opponents. The Bulldogs shutout Presbyterian College 8-0 after defeating them 10-1, in the first game of Wednesday’s slate. Florida, LSU and Texas A&M pitched 6-0, 5-0 and 2-0 shutouts against Jacksonville, Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston respectively and rounding things out was Alabama who won 3-1.
The most shocking news of the day was that Tide hurler Alexis Osorio actually gave up a run. Just a single run though. She did strike out 15 batters and issue one walk, so, you know: She’s still pretty damn good at this whole thing.
