The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers house this week’s SEC basketball awards. The conference handed out Player of the Week to State guard Tyson Carter and Freshman of the Week to Auburn forward Chuma Okeke.

Mississippi State won both of their games last week against the North Dakota State Bison and Dayton Flyers. Carter was integral in both of those victories for the Bulldogs, who are out to a 7-0 start to the year. The Starkville native dropped 35 points, a career high, against the Bison and then put up 20 points against the Flyers. These two outings marked the fourth and fifth time that he has put up double figures this season, and he’s scored 20 or more points in three of his last four outings.

Carter also added six boards, an assist, two steals and only one TO over NDSU, and then one board, two assists and three steals against Dayton. In the two games, Tyson shot a combined 19-29 from the field, including an impressive 12-20 from 3-point land.

Okeke, meanwhile, helped lead Auburn to two victories over Dayton and the George Mason Patriots. Chuma was especially vital in the Tigers’ win over the Flyers, in which he put up a line of 15 and eight boards. He missed just one shot from the field, as he made both of his 2-point shots and went 3-4 from the 3-point line, as well. He followed that up with seven points against George Mason, but also grabbed eight boards, dished out three assists and picked up a block also.
