The Mississippi St. Bulldogs will represent the SEC in the 2017 Taxslayer Gator Bowl. Of course, the circumstances of this bowl game look a lot different than how it could’ve a while back. Dan Mullen is no longer the head coach, and Nick Fitzgerald won’t be participating due to injury.
The Bulldogs will have to go into uncharted waters, faced with the unenviable task of taking on the Louisville Cardinals. The sensational Lamar Jackson has been terrific in his college career, and capped off a hell of a 2017 with a third-place Heisman Trophy finish. The Cardinals didn’t have many of their skill players from a year ago, but still managed to have a redeemable year in ACC play.
This will prove to be one of the more intriguing games of the bowl season. Although the Bulldogs don’t have Fitzgerald, they still have the deft Aeris Williams, who’s proven to be one of the better backs in the SEC over the past few seasons. Time will certainly tell to see if Fitzgerald’s absence, and the coaching changes, had any effect on Mississippi State. But you’ll probably want to tune into this one. Even if you’re just here for Lamar.
