2018 quarterback Matt Corral flips from Florida to Ole Miss

Welp. The Gators lose a big-time recruit.

Student Sports

CLass of 2018 quarterback Matt Corral initially committed to the Florida Gators over the summer. A few months later, plans have now changed. Corral will now be playing ball for Matt Luke and the Ole Miss Rebels, he announced on Twitter Thursday night.

As the tweet indicates, Corral will sign on December 20 with the Rebels as part of the new early signing period. This certainly plays out well for Ole Miss, who of course lost Shea Patterson to the Michigan Wolverines earlier this week.

The loss is, obviously, a big one for Florida. Although Dan Mullen has had his share of good QBs over the past few years (hello, Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald) it’s the Gators who, well, haven’t in quite some time. You could make the argument that since Tim Tebow graduated, UF has had a gaping hole at the QB position.

Losing a player of Corral’s caliber is obviously not going to help fill that void.

The Long Beach Poly QB ranks 60th in the nation overall in 2018 and third among all pro-style QBs. He ranks Top 10 in the state of California, sitting 8th, as the U.S. Army All-American is one of the best signal callers out there.
