Shea Patterson is joining the Michigan Wolverines. The now former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback made the move from Oxford to Ann Arbor official on Monday. Patterson recently visited the Michigan campus, along with Van Jefferson and Deontay Anderson, and Shea announced his decision to transfer on Twitter.

There’s no word yet on whether Patterson’s fellow teammates in Jefferson and Anderson will join him in maize and blue yet. But, this is a pretty big move obviously. It’s yet to be seen if he will be granted a transfer waiver by the NCAA. If he does, then Michigan becomes an even more interesting team than they were going to be heading into 2018. With Dylan McCaffrey and Brandon Peters on the roster, Patterson being put in the mix makes for a fascinating QB battle in camp.

For Ole Miss, this is a bit of a bummer, obviously. Patterson was the top-ranked pro-style quarterback in the class of 2016, and certainly showed his worth when he was able to take snaps. Jordan Ta’amu definitely filled the void in relief this past season, and the Rebels offense was still able to fire on all cylinders. The Rebels have that to lean on, of course, but a player of Patterson’s caliber is certainly one you want to hold on to.
