Tennessee welcomes Southern Miss to Neyland Stadium for the 94th homecoming in school history. This game marks the end of the Vols’ nonconference schedule this season. If they lose, Butch Jones will likely become the second SEC coach fired in the past two weeks.
A lot can be said about how much Jones and the Vols have struggled this season. They’re 3-6, and 0-5 in SEC play. They have the conference’s worst offense and one of the worst offenses in the nation.
With that being said, though, they should be able to beat Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles can move the ball and have a solid defense, but their schedule this season hasn’t been particularly challenging. They lost to Kentucky to open the season in what was likely their biggest test of the year.
Simply put, Tennessee needs to win this game. The fanbase may very well revolt if they don’t.
