Daniel Carlson has had an outstanding season kicking the football. Hell, he’s had an outstanding career doing so. It should be no surprise that Carlson was named as one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award on Monday.
The award given to the nation’s most outstanding placekicker will either go to Carlson, Utah State Aggies kicker Dominik Eberle or Utah Utes kicker Matt Gay.
Carlson has been a perfect 51-51 on extra points this season and 19-25 on field goals. He has racked up 108 points himself this year and 456 for his entire career.
Should he take home the trophy, he would be the first Auburn player ever to win it. He would also become the first SEC player to win the award since Ole Miss Rebels standout Jonathan Nichols won it back in 2003.
