The Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Friday at Minute Maid Park in Houston to advance to the World Series.

Houston has three former SEC standouts with pitchers Will Harris (LSU) and Dallas Keuchel (Arkansas) and third baseman Alex Bregman (LSU).

It’s the first AL pennant for Houston, who moved from the NL to the AL in 2013. The Astros won the National League pennant in 2005, but were swept in the Fall Classic by the Chicago White Sox.

Houston will play the Los Angeles, who defeated the reigning World Series champion Chicago Cubs in five games in the NLCS.

The Dodgers have five former Southeastern Conference players: catcher Kyle Farmer, pitchers Josh Fields and Alex Wood (Georgia), second baseman Logan Forsythe (Arkansas) and pitcher Ross Stripling (Texas A&M).

All eight former SEC standouts have never played in a World Series before.
