SEC football recruiting roundup (August 21, 2016)

NCAA Football: SEC Media Day Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

As the season is approaching, commits seem to be downsizing. This past week, only three SEC schools received commits. Here’s what went down.

Commits

Auburn

Jordyn Peters (3* 2017 S, Muscle Shoals, AL)

South Carolina

Hamsah Nasirildeen (4* 2017 S, Concord, NC)

MJ Webb (4* 2017 SDE, Madison, GA)

Tennessee

Ty Chandler (4* 2017 RB, Nashville, TN)

Who made a splash?

South Carolina and Tennessee made the biggest of splashes this past week as a combined three four-star players were acquired by the two programs with the Gamecocks holding claim to two of them in Hamsah Nasirildeen and MJ Webb. Will Muschamp is doing a stout job on the recruiting trail and it’s begun to show. The Gamecocks have the No. 16 recruiting class in the country in the 2017 class and No. 8 in the SEC at this juncture.

The Vols meanwhile got a big boost with Ty Chandler as he’s just the fourth four-star player in Butch Jones’ 2017 class with a slew of three stars filling up the chart. Chandler is an outstanding talent from in-state, calling Nashville home, and is the Vols’ second-best recruit so far in the 2017 class behind safety Maleik Gray of LaVergne.
