Defensive back Maurice Smith has been granted his release Alabama, according to Cecil Hurt of TideSports.com.
The recent graduate requested for a release back in June but was denied, citing SEC rules of transferring to a fellow SEC school. In this particular case, that school was Georgia, where former Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is now the head coach for the Bulldogs.

After writing a letter to Alabama’s appeal committee stating that his personal belongings were thrown in the trashed and felt like he was being ‘ostracized’ and it being publicized via AJC.com by Smith’s mother, the DB’s release was granted.
Even though the SEC made no comment on this specific incident, the conference did make a statement on the waiver process, which was indicated in the aforementioned report written by Hurt on TideSports.com.
Coach Saban was asked about the Maurice Smith situation in a press conference on Wednesday and he simply stated that they were past it and were looking to move forward.
As it stands now, it appears that both parties will be able to do that without much interruption.
