Seven SEC teams earn 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament Regional Sites

The Southeastern Conference has become a haven for excellence on the diamond over the years, so it comes as no surprise that the SEC is sending a bevy of teams to the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament, which will of course culminate with the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska next month.

Before the field is revealed on Monday, the regional sites were announced on Sunday night. In turn, the list was littered with teams from the conference as a record-setting amount of seven clubs were rewarded with the distinction of hosting regional round games. Baton Rouge, College Station, Columbia (South Carolina), Gainesville, Nashville, Oxford, and Starkville are the 'magnificent' seven of the 16 regional sites. Given the successes of the teams that call those towns and cities home, relatively little unrest should come about from those decisions.

There was a question of whether or not any cities out west would be given the right to host NCAA Tournament games. As fate would have it, nowhere west of Texas will be hosting a regional. Although UC Santa Barbara and Oregon State were both quality teams this year, neither Santa Barbara or Corvallis were deemed as hosts.

The NCAA Baseball Tournament will begin Friday, June 3.
