2016 SEC Softball Tournament semifinals recaps, results, updates and more

Game 1: LSU 3, Tennessee 1

The dream stays alive for the LSU Tigers who will play in the SEC Softball Tournament final tomorrow in Mississippi.

The Tigers took down the No. 4 seeded Tennessee Volunteers 3-1 in extra innings on Friday after seven innings could not decide a winner. Eight innings were enough, as Sandra Simmons hit her second homer in as many days to pull her team ahead for good.

Allie Walljasper pitched terrifically for the Tigers, going 4.2 innings allowing only one earned run with three strikeouts. She struggled a bit with control, walking four, but her defense helped her out and she made some key pitches to keep Tennessee runners at bay. Carley Hoover pitched 3.1 innings of shutout baseball in relief and doled out six strikeouts to the 13 batters she faced.

Game 2: Auburn 2, Florida 1

If you were expecting chalk in the finals, Auburn apologizes for the inconvenience. The Tigers won their second game of the day after taking down Alabama earlier in the afternoon with their 2-1 win over No. 1 seeded Florida to advance to the SEC Softball Tournament final.

Carlee Wallace's 2-run homer in the early stages of the game was all Auburn would need as it provided them with enough insurance to advance to the final. The Tigers were once again aided with great pitching performances and, like LSU, danced their way out of trouble a few times to stay on top.
