A suddenly pivotal SEC East matchup takes place at high noon in Gainesville as the Florida Gators host the South Carolina Gamecocks in part one of an SEC on CBS doubleheader.

Florida now has lots of pressure supplanted on them as they are clinging to a slim lead in the SEC East standings. If the Gators want to go to Atlanta, they must now win out with Tennessee breathing down their necks after taking a brutal loss to Arkansas this past Saturday in Fayetteville. In that game, the offense looked sluggish, and to make matters worse Luke Del Rio went down with an injury that will sideline him for the rest of the season. Austin Appleby, who has experience starting this year, will get the nod and we’ll see if the Gators can get it going again or if they will continue to sink.

The Gamecocks, meanwhile, have come on strong of late as they stand at 5-4 to this point in the season. After a three-game losing streak put them down to 2-4, they have reversed course with a three-game winning streak to prop them above the .500 mark and at 3-4 in SEC play. This will be the last SEC game the Gamecocks play this season with Western Carolina and Clemson looming, so finishing strong is high on Will Muschamp’s priority list as well as playing spoiler to the team he used to coach.

Suffice it to say, this could be a pretty intriguing matchup down in the swamp.
