The team of the morning was Auburn, and Will Muschamp was a big reason why.
The Tigers won a few key battles over the Gators specifically. It began with longtime UF commit Mike Horton flipping to Auburn right before 9 a.m. ET. Not too long after that, AU (probably, see below) beat out UF for the services of 5-star DE Byron Cowart, one of the highest rated prospects in the country. Jeff Holland, a 4-star linebacker, was the next to go with the Tigers over the Gators, followed by 4-star WR Ryan Davis. No matter how you slice it, Auburn was a clear winner.
Florida had more bad, if not entirely surprising, news with Baton Rouge's 4-star WR Derrick Dillon flipping to LSU. Jim McElwain finally got some good news not long ago with 5-star OT Martez Ivey choosing to go to Gainesville. The Gators are in the mix for some more guys this afternoon, so it's far from over for Florida.
The strangest story of the day has been Cowart. He officially committed to Auburn, but there's question still about where his letter of intent is. His mother said she sent it, but Auburn doesn't have it. His coach says he has two LOIs, one for Auburn and one for Florida. Stay tuned, folks. (UPDATE: Cowart says he's going to Auburn "regardless".)
Another 5-star guy to choose an SEC school so far was DL Terry Beckner, Jr. heading to Missouri. Excellence at defensive line has been no small part of the Tigers' run of SEC East titles, and it should continue with him. The final 5-star (for now) to enter the conference is DL Daylon Mack, a highly fought over guy from Texas who picked A&M over the other big in-state schools.
